This section will be used to determine if you possess the Basic Requirements for appointment as a Lead Medical Records Technician (HIT) in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). 3. GS-08: To meet the requirement for the GS-8 grade level Lead Medical Records Technician (HIT), applicants must possess at least 1 year of experience comparable to the next lower grade level which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics related to the duties of the positions to be filled. This would be experience which provided a knowledge of the more complex procedures as well as knowledge of the uncommon and/or rare sleep disorders. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: 
1. Comprehensive knowledge of health record technology methods, procedures, and techniques.
2. Ability to work with a team to provide technical guidance, and to plan, organize, and coordinate activities to effectively complete job assignments (i.e., distributing workload, monitoring the status and progress of work, monitoring accuracy of work, and ensuring required timelines are met.)
3. Skill in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing, to meet program objectives.
4. Ability to prepare reports in a variety of formats and present data to individuals at various organizational levels.
5. Ability to coordinate and provide staff development and training.

Do you possess an associate's degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, with a major field of study in health information technology/health information management, or a related degree with a minimum of 12 semester hours in health information technology/health information management (e.g., courses in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, legal aspects of health care, and introduction to health records).
